BNN – Canadians’ info from Equifax breach already being sold on Dark Web

Cypfer CEO Daniel Tobok spoke with BNN on September 20, 2017, about the Equifax breach.

The personal information harvested from the Equifax breach, on some 100,000 Canadians, is already being sold on the Dark Web, reports Tobok.

Canadians who are affected by the data breach had signed up for, ironically, protection from identity theft from the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA).

“The fact that the data breach happened on July 29, 2017 and was only made public by Equifax on September 15, 2017, that’s not great. Equifax Canada is waiting on information from Equifax USA but that’s not a great response time,” said Tobok.

“One thing I can tell you for sure, is that cyber crooks are very fast and very efficient. Once they harvest information, it goes up for sale on the Dark Web very quickly, within 204 to 72 hours,” said Tobok.
